WORKSHOPS

The Professional Development Series

Workshops can be customized to meet the needs of the client.

  • In this series, we explore how modern educational practices have been used to stifle students’ abilities and how teachers can change that narrative and use their classrooms to empower their students to follow their dreams and reach their true potential.

  • In this series, we will take a deep dive into the theory of culturally responsive teaching, and ground teachers in the foundational principles of the pedagogy. In addition, participants will learn about specific research-based strategies in the area of cultural responsiveness that have been proven to raise student achievement and improve classroom culture.

  • Does the Social Studies curriculum used by your school give a fair and accurate depiction of history? Are the contributions of marginalized groups being included in that depiction? In this series, teachers will explore the overt and covert ways that school curriculums help spread stereotypes and racism, and what they can do in their classrooms to ensure that doesn’t happen. Additionally, participants will be given resources that will be instrumental in helping them incorporate the history and culture of their students into their classrooms.

  • In a time of social unrest, and racial injustice, many teachers want to be able to use their classrooms to promote societal change and create a better life for their students. Teachers will be taught several high leverage strategies that will equip and empower them to create a classroom rooted in social justice and anti-racism.

  • How young is too young to talk to my students about racism? How do I talk about to them about what’s been happening in the news? Are there any resources out there that can help me discuss issues around race? These are questions that parents and teachers are grappling with on a daily basis. In this series, teachers will be given talking points, tools, and resources to be able to facilitate productive, age appropriate conversations with their students around issues of race and racism.

“Mr. Edelin partnered with me to help me create a vision for how I wanted culturally responsive pedagogy to live within my campus. The monthly sessions have helped to re-ground our teachers in our broader purpose and unify our staff under this purpose. Mr. Edelin brings deep content knowledge and experience to the work. He was also able to create a space where the results of the sessions and other best practices can be shared and celebrated from k to 8th grade. Additionally, we have partnered with Mr. Edelin to provide targeted coaching sessions for our instructional coaches to build up their content knowledge so that they can best support our teacher’s implementation. I have appreciated Mr. Edelin’s proactive approach to gathering feedback and input so that we are continuously aligning with my intended outcomes.  I would recommend Mr. Edelin to anyone that is serious about engaging with our scholars in an identity-affirming, revolutionary, and transformative way.”

Read what people are saying about ‘Through Our Own Eyes: A Journey Into African American History’

“It's rare to find a clear, concise curriculum guide for African American history - but Joseph Edelin has done it! This guide spans the time period from the start of ancient African civilization through the civil rights era. He includes QR codes to YouTube videos to supplement the chapters and includes discussion questions to have with the students. As a working homeschooling mom of four, this is an excellent resource for us. For any family who wants to supplement the traditional history curriculum taught in any setting, this is a wonderful tool!”

“Mr. Edelin has done an outstanding job of creating a history resource for teachers, students and parents. His facts, explanations and exercises bring African history and its effect into the forefront of what has been so often forgotten or unknown in America and the world. Thank you!”

“I was able to purchase this for my nephews and it has come in handy during this stay at home order. I love how it also includes STEM questions at the bottom of the page.”

“This book is just what we needed. Our daughter is only 6 but we’ve already started reading parts of it to her. I can’t wait to dig through the rest.”
